Changes to the Podiatry Service in Kirklees

Following a major public consultation into podiatry services in Kirklees, Locala is changing the service it offers.

From 1st January 2019, all existing patients will be assessed against a set of eligibility criteria to determine their clinical need for the service. This criteria is the same that has been used to assess new patients for several years.

After 1st January, the service will no longer be offering ‘routine foot care’. Only people with medical conditions that causes their feet to be 'at risk‘ of developing complications such as foot ulceration, or people who have significant foot problems will be eligible for the service.

In addition, the extensive public consultation also identified some changes to the locations in the Greater Huddersfield area where podiatry clinics are offered.

That means there will be 10 clinics in total in that area but we will no longer be operating clinics in Honley, Kirkheaton, Newsome, Scissett and Waterloo

We will continue to run clinics in the following locations: Fartown, Kirkburton, Holme Valley Memorial Hospital, Marsden, Meltham, Mill Hill, Slaithwaite, Princess Royal (Huddersfield), Shepley, Skelmanthorpe. In addition, clinics also operate in five locations in North Kirklees: Dewsbury, Batley, Cleckheaton, Ravensthorpe and Birkenshaw.

Our ‘drop-in’ clinics in Kirklees will also be replaced by booked clinics from the 1st January.

These changes bring Kirklees into line with other areas. To meet the high levels of demand for Podiatry services in Kirklees, we need to focus on those patients with the greatest clinical need and highest risks so that they are seen at the right time, every time.

There are still a number of options for people from if they don’t meet the criteria for our Podiatry Service but still need some support to help with general foot care. These include:
