Meet the Team

Carl Chapman MCSP, BSc (Hons), HCPC Registered

Physiotherapist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Carl qualified from the University of Bradford in 2001 and has worked in the NHS, private and sporting sectors. He was a Physiotherapist at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust before moving to Locala in 2009, to work within the MSK Service as an Advanced Practitioner. Carl obtained his injection qualification in 2009 from the University of Keele.

Carl has a specialist interest in sporting injuries of the shoulder and knee alongside ultrasound guided injections.


Dr Dave Eastwood MBBS PGDip MFSEM MRCGP

GPwSI (GP with Special interest)

Dave graduated from Newcastle Medical School in 2014. He worked for a year in Melbourne, Australia where he got a taste for musculoskeletal medicine by working in Orthopaedics and Australian Rules Football, before returning to Yorkshire to complete his training in General Practice.

Dave has worked in professional sport in several roles and currently works as team doctor with Wakefield Trinity Rugby League Club. He has completed a post graduate diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath, as well as becoming a member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2019.

He currently works in the Locala MSK service as well as a locum GP in Leeds and Harrogate. He enjoys medical education, teaching at Leeds Medical School and developing resources for Medisense, an online resource for medical students and junior doctors.

In his spare time, he enjoys running and cycling in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.


Dr Jamie Buckle McCHb, GPwSI

(GP with Special interest) Clinical Lead, MSK.

Jamie studied Medicine at Leeds University and became a Member of Royal College of Physicians in 1996. He trained to become a Rheumatologist before switching to General Practice and qualified as a GP in 1998.

Jamie began work as a Sports Medicine Doctor in professional rugby league in 1998, working with several Super League teams and the England Academy and went on to complete an MSc in Sports Medicine at Bath University. He is an Honorary Lecturer in Sports Medicine at Sheffield University and founding member of the Rugby League Medical Management Course.

Dr Buckle is clinical lead for the Huddersfield MSK service which he helped launch 2004. He provides guidance on the strategic development of the service, as well leading the team of specialist physiotherapists providing clinical support, advice and guidance. He also teaches trainee GPs and nurse practitioners.

In his spare time he enjoys training in and teaching karate (3rd Dan black belt), watching rugby league, playing golf and also finds time for some ghost hunting and metal detecting.


Jenniex Bagavan-Jayanthirajan MCSP

Physiotherapist, Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Jenniex completed his undergraduate degree in physiotherapy in India in 1999 and went on to complete an Msc in MSK Physiotherapy in India in 2005.

He began work as a senior MSK physiotherapist in the UK in 2005 for the NHS and later worked as Team Leader Physiotherapist. During his career as MSK Physiotherapist, he developed a special interest in Spinal MSK conditions, particularly headaches and vestibular disorders. He went on to complete a Vestibular rehabilitation module in Manchester University in 2015. He was the lead vestibular therapist and played a major role in setting up vestibular rehabilitation service in Oldham.

He was actively involved in formulating Oldham Low Back Pain Pathway and as a Clinical Educator, he has played an active role in the clinical teaching of both undergraduate and MSc Physiotherapy students, as well as the development of other physiotherapists.

Jenniex completed his Advanced MSK Practitioner module in Manchester Metropolitan University in November 2017 and an MSK injection therapy qualification from University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), Preston in September 2018. He is currently working as an Advanced MSK Practitioner in Locala MSK Service.

In his spare time he enjoys watching cricket, playing with his sons and spending time with family & friends.


Joanne Powell MCSP

Physiotherapist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Joanne graduated as a physiotherapist from the University of Bradford in 1999. Following qualification, she worked at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS trust, until taking her current post in the MSK service in Locala in 2017. She has also previously worked in the private sector on a part time basis.

She realised early on in her career that her main interest was Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. Therefore, to develop this further, she undertook a Master’s degree at the University of Bradford, which was completed in 2008. She also gained her injection qualification in 2011 from the University of Keele.

Joanne also has an interest in Rheumatology and has previously specialised in this area of physiotherapy. She has also worked as an Advanced Practitioner in Rheumatology at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust from 2012 until 2017.


Kay Bradley-Higgins Grad Dip Phys, MCSP, MSc Advanced Clinical practice, Dip Orth Med, HCPC registered

Physiotherapist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Kay qualified from Salford University in 1991 as a Physiotherapist. Starting work at the Royal Oldham Hospital, after a number of years Kay decided to specialise in musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders and moved to Huddersfield in 1995. In 1998, Kay took a senior post at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital where she developed a particular interest in back and spinal problems.

In 2005 Kay took on her current role as an Advanced Practitioner (AP also known as an Extended Scope Practitioner - ESP), helping to set up and develop the service we currently offer. Kay specialises in the assessment of treatment of spinal disorders, particularly low back pain, as well as hip and knee problems. An AP/ESP is a highly specialised physiotherapist who can provide a range of interventions and investigations for complex non-surgical musculoskeletal conditions which include treatment, education and advice

Kay has a wide range of knowledge and experience is the MSK field, with continuous service in the NHS for over 25 years, as well as work in the private sector, in both private practice and private hospitals.

Kay completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice in 2004, she also has a diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine. Kay has links with Salford University and is currently an Honorary Lecturer. Kay is an accredited Sarah Key Practitioner (ASKP) (back pain) and a SIRPA (chronic pain) Practitioner. Kay is a member of the Extended Scope Special Interest Group and The OCPPP (Organisation of Physiotherapists in Private Practice).


Kirsty Wade BSc (Hons), MCSP, AACP, HCPC registered

Physiotherapist

Kirsty has been working as a Physiotherapist for over 8 years. She qualified from the University of Huddersfield in 2008. Since then she has gained experience working in a number of areas including Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Respiratory/ITU, post-Surgical Rehabilitation and has led Hydrotherapy and group rehab classes. She has worked in both NHS and private settings.        

Kirsty has experience in treating sporting injuries and has worked with rugby union teams within the Northern Division and has an RFU approved pitch side care qualification.

She enjoys treating all musculoskeletal conditions and has worked in this area for over 5 years.

She is a qualified acupuncturist and is APPI Pilates trained.


Lara Gill MCSP

Physiotherapist, Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Lara graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2008 and from there worked within the NHS in Rochdale before starting at CHFT in 2009. 

She quickly found that she enjoyed MSK Physiotherapy and settled into a static position in this field in 2011. She embarked upon a master qualification at the University of Bradford, completing in 2020. Within CHFT she worked as a Specialist Spinal Physiotherapist and Clinical Lead. Following the birth of her second daughter in 2020, she felt ready to take on the new challenge of becoming an Advanced Practitioner, taking up her new role in 2021 on her return from maternity leave. She is currently undertaking a further post graduate qualification in First Contact Physiotherapy. 

In her spare time, she enjoys teaching Pilates, cooking and traveling with her young family.  


Lucy Douglas GPwSI

GP with Special interest, MSK

Dr Lucy Douglas qualified as a GP in 2002. Since that time she has also worked in a variety of musculoskeletal and rheumatology clinics in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Prior to 2002 she worked in various hospital general medicine specialities as a junior doctor and also in radiology.

She currently works in the Locala MSK service, East Lancs NHS Trust MSK service and Lindley Group Practice in Huddersfield as well as an occasional GP locum in the locality.

Her qualifications include MRCP, Diploma in Primary Care Rheumatology University of Bath 2009, EULAR Course on Rheumatic Diseases 2013, MSc in MSK Ultrasound University of Bournemouth (distinction) 2016, Dr Douglas is a keen advocate of the use of MSK ultrasound to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of complex MSK conditions.

Dr Douglas is also currently president of the Primary Care Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine Society, and in this role is passionate about increasing the skills of all primary care clinicians in the diagnosis and management of common musculoskeletal, rheumatological and chronic pain conditions. 


Natalie Turner MCSP

Physiotherapist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Natalie qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2004 from the University of Teesside and initially started working for Calderdale & Huddersfield Trust, where she spent 15 years of her career. She realised early on that she had a passion for MSK, developing this further by completing an MSc in Advanced Rehabilitation in 2015 from the University of Bradford.

During this period, Natalie spent 10 years working in the Super League for Wakefield Wildcats and Bradford Bulls. This developed her MSK skills further and after completing her injection therapy qualification she took on her role as an Advanced Practitioner for Locala in 2017.

In her spare time Natalie enjoys travelling and spending quality time with her friends and family.


Patrick Roberts DPodM, PgD, Msch, HCPC registered

Podiatrist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Patrick qualified as a Podiatrist in 1990 and started working for the NHS in 1991. For the last 18 years he has been the Clinical Lead for MSK and Rheumatology in Podiatry working in Orthopaedic and Rheumatology Consultant led clinics. He has worked as part of the MSK Assessment Service for 12 years.


Rebecca Franklin MCSP

Physiotherapist, Extended Scope Practitioner

Rebecca qualified from the University of Huddersfield in 2000 and went on to secure her first post at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust where she continued to work until 2019. The majority of this time she spent specialising in MSK, rheumatological and persistent pain disorders. She took a year out of work to backpack solo around Asia from 2005 to 2006 where she completed both Annapurna and Everest base camp trails. She has also worked for a number of years in private practice and moved into her current post with Locala in March 2019. She completed a Masters level module in the management of spinal conditions at Bradford University in 2017 and gained her injection qualification at UCLAN in 2019.

She devotes her time to raising her young daughter but also enjoys gardening and going for long walks.
