Starting Well

Locala’s Starting Well project aims to improve health outcomes for children from pre-conception to those aged two and a half in diverse communities.

After winning a successful bid on behalf of Thriving Kirklees, the project is government funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and runs until March 2023.

As a result of this funding from the government, we have been able to support a variety of community projects. Click on the 'Apply for funding' button on this page to apply.

Aims and Objectives

  • Improving visibility in communities
  • Improving access to Locala and other relevant services
  • Increasing knowledge and improving healthy lifestyles
  • Strengthening relationships

What we do

So far, the Starting Well Project has been able to provide funding to a variety of community groups across Kirklees.  To date these include:

  • Starting Well in School Readiness
  • National Healthy Start Scheme
  • We Love to Dance
  • Parent Sanctuary
  • Boothroyd Academy Stay & Play
  • Botanical Babies playgroup

We are committed to providing communities with the knowledge, resources and support to become self-sustaining and maintain the support on offer for local families.  We truly believe in every project we have funded so far, and we are excited to see them continue to flourish.

Alongside this, our Starting Well Champions are meeting with families and community groups to provide evidence-based advice and support on a range of relevant health topics.

We are not an emergency service and we are unable to provide urgent care.

Meet the Team

The Starting Well Project Management Team consists of Laura, Amy & Angela.

We also have our highly trained clinical members of staff consisting of Infant Feeding, Speech and Language, and Dental Champions.  Our Champions work closely with our communities to help improve health outcomes of children from birth to two and half years to get the best start in life.
