The 0-5 Children's Service is also known as the Health Visiting Service. The Service aims to promote the health and wellbeing of children under five.
A health visitor helps families and young children, aiming to promote health and prevent illness in the community.
Health visitors support all families with children under 5 by providing advice on:
- Child growth and development
- Common childhood infections and skin problems
- Behaviour issues (sleeping, eating, potty training, tantrums, teething)
- Breastfeeding, weaning, healthy eating, safety, hygiene, and exercise
- Postnatal depression, grief, and family violence
- Working with families to create personalized health plans
- Immunisations
Locala Health Visitors provide the NHS Healthy Child Programme, which includes:
- Antenatal visit: From 28 weeks of pregnancy
- New Birth visit: Within the first month after birth
- 6-8 Week check: Ongoing assessment of mother and child's well-being
- Pre-One Year Review: Between 7 months and 1 year
- Two Year Review: Between 2 and 2.5 years
