Our service can be extremely busy at times so we would advise you to contact NHS111 before attending for advice on which service is most appropriate for your need.
During weekends and bank holidays we are open 10:00-18:00, with the last booking at 17:30 (please note, on occasion these hours may be extended based on patient demand, please contact NHS111 for the most up to date advice). Masks are no longer essential but patients with respiratory conditions are advised to wear a mask when visiting the centre (we can provide masks if required).
Halifax and Todmorden Walk in Centres - are currently not open for face to face appointments. There is a virtual (video/telephone) service available every weekend 08:00-20:00. Please contact NHS111 who will assess and then direct you to our booking process.
The Locala Walk in Centres are a nurse led service with a dedicated team of experienced health professionals. We provide assessment, advice and treatment of minor illnesses and a selection of minor injuries.
A Walk in Centre gives you fast and convenient access to local NHS services, information and treatment without needing an appointment. All you need to do is book in at the emergency department to be seen by our team of experienced health professionals. We do not replace your local GP or hospital services but complement them. The Locala Walk in Centre is located within the Accident and Emergency Department at Dewsbury & District Hospital, and offers a nurse led assessment, advice and treatment service. Who might I see at the Walk in Centre? We have nurse practitioners and paramedic practitioners trained to diagnose and treat minor illnesses and injuries. We do not see patients under two years old or patients with pregnancy related illness.

Below are examples of illnesses/injuries we can see:
- Minor ear, nose and throat problems
- Sprains and strains
- Wound infections
- Minor burns and scalds
- Minor head injuries (only in over 2 year olds, under 65 year olds and not patients on blood thinning medication)
- Skin conditions
- Minor respiratory conditions such as cough*
- Mild abdominal pain or discomfort
- Insect and animal bites and stings
- Minor eye problems
- Minor injuries to the back, shoulder and chest**
- Wound dressings
- Emergency contraception
Please do not the attend the Walk in Centre if you have had a positive Covid test or have symptoms of Covid-19.
*Respiratory conditions are currently being reviewed before being seen in the Walk in Centre to rule out potential Covid-19.
**Injuries involving high impacts or people over the age of 65 are asked to contact 111 before attending with injuries as their management may be different.
