Locala supports hundreds across West Yorkshire sharing over £40,000 to 30 community groups

A total of 30 community groups from across Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees have become the latest beneficiaries of Locala’s Community Fund – supporting work with hundreds of people to the tune of more than £40,000.

The Fund’s beneficiaries include: parents support group, food delivery service, respite for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia and wellbeing projects.

Locala provides community health services in the three areas of West Yorkshire and as a not-for-profit, social enterprise, it invests any surplus back into services or community projects.

The Community Fund is one way of doing this – community groups can apply for a share of the money available and the final decision on which groups were supported was taken by Locala’s Charities Committee and a group of Locala Members – made up of both Locala colleagues and people from the local community.

We are all still seeing the effects of the pandemic, which had an impact on fundraising for many community and charity groups. The Locala Members Council and Locala’s Charities Committee agreed to increase the amount of funding available to groups, for the third year, from the usual amount of £10,000 up to £43,332 which will support the 30 groups.

Diane Mckerracher, Chair of Locala’s Board, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to support so many community projects through the Community Fund this year. As part of our commitment as a social enterprise we value the importance of being able to give back and create better lives for those in our communities. We received so many great applications, we wanted to help as many as we could and I look forward to working with the groups as they become part of our Locala family.

We look forward to welcoming many more applications later this year when the next round of funding opens.”
