Sweating is a normal function of the skin. However, some people experience hyperhidrosis, a condition where the sweat glands are overactive. The smell associated with sweaty feet is caused by bacteria on the skin breaking down sweat.
Treatment is not covered by NHS podiatry. However, self-help advice can make a big difference. If you have hyperhidrosis that is affecting your quality of life, you should seek help from your GP.
