Inclusion Criteria
Referrals are accepted for individuals of all ages where there is an identified podiatry need.
Medical Inclusion Criteria
Referrals will be accepted for patients with:
- Chronic Kidney Disease (Stage 4 or above) with an associated podiatry need
- Current use of immunosuppressant medication with an associated podiatry need
- Peripheral Arterial Disease with an associated podiatry need
- History of a previous foot ulcer
- Sensory neuropathy
Podiatric Condition Inclusion Criteria
Referrals are accepted for patients with:
- Biomechanical or functional foot pathology
- Corns
- Pathological callus (unusually thick or hard skin)
- Ingrowing or deformed toenails
- Foreign body in the foot
- Diabetic foot screening – increased risk and high risk categories
- Existing foot ulcer
Exclusion Criteria
The service does not accept referrals for:
- Individuals without a podiatric need (as defined above)
- Foot deformities requiring surgical intervention (e.g. bunions)
- Diabetic foot screening – low risk category
- Nail cutting that can be managed by a healthy individual
- Verrucae
- Fungal nail or skin infections
- Individuals who are able to self-care
Please note:
We are only able to accept referrals for nail care in individuals with medical conditions or who are taking medications that place their feet at risk of developing complications, such as foot ulceration. This includes patients with arterial insufficiency, sensory neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, those who are immunocompromised, or other risk factors (please specify).
Your ability to care for your own feet is not one of the criteria for receiving Locala podiatry services.
