Women-Led Community Businesses win Locala Sponsored Kirklees Social Enterprise Awards

At this year’s annual Kirklees Social Enterprise Awards, a community parenting space in Holmfirth and a community café in Huddersfield were this year’s big winners.

Rebecca Clacher from The Nest Holmfirth CIC won the Enterprise Start Up Award, beating Laura Scully from Hello Wellness CIC and Jo Cook from Meet and Mend in an all-woman final.

The prize money of £4,000 will be used by Rebecca to fund a year-long programme of workshops focussing on parental health and wellbeing, exploring topics such as postnatal physiotherapy and infant sleep.

The judging panel stated they were pleased with Rebecca’s traditional social enterprise setup, which also had clear, realistic plans that were sustainable with the help of the prize money. They were also delighted by her passion and ability to build an organisation so quickly with the help of local people from the community.

Rebecca was delighted by the result. “Just over a year ago we opened the doors of the Nest, and we’ve worked so hard to grow our thriving community of parents. Winning this award is huge for us, and it’s given us the energy to enter the next stage of the Nest’s development.”

Locala CEO Karen Jackson was at hand to present the award to Rebecca at the event. Another notable winner was Gabby Hurt from Hive Huddersfield CIC, beating eight other social enterprises to win the first Kirklees Social Impact Award.
