New contract to deliver sexual health services in the North West

Locala Health and Wellbeing, has been awarded a new contract to deliver sexual health services, in the North West.

From Friday 1st April sexual health services in Stockport and Tameside will be provided by Locala Health and Wellbeing. Although new to providing services in the North West, Locala has provided sexual health services in Kirklees for more than ten years, and in Bradford for five years.

As in Kirklees and Bradford, these new services will provide advice on all sexual health issues and conditions, plus contraception provision, treatment of STIs, condom distribution, and particular guidance and support for under 18s. Services will be run through clinics, and a range of face to face and telephone appointments.

Jennifer Connolly, Director of Public Health, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council said: “Locala Health and Wellbeing is an important new provider for Stockport. They bring expertise in providing sexual health services, as well as innovation, flexibility, and the ethos of community support and development.”

Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Population Health, Councillor Eleanor Wills, said: “I am delighted that Locala Health and Wellbeing will be providing a high quality sexual health service for local people.  Their clinics are free and confidential.”

Locala Chief Executive, Karen Jackson, said: “We are delighted to be taking our experience of providing sexual health services across the Pennines to Stockport and Tameside, and welcoming our new colleagues to the Locala Team.”

Locala Health and Wellbeing is a member owned, not-for-profit social enterprise that provides NHS community healthcare services. As well as providing high quality healthcare services, Locala also has a focus on developing and supporting work in local areas with many community projects having benefitted from Locala’s support over the years – something that will be also now happening in Stockport and Tameside.
