Bradford project gets Mayor's Support

A new “one-stop shop” weekly clinic to support vulnerable women’s in Bradford has received a boost with help from the Mayor of West Yorkshire’s Safer Communities Fund.

The Fund has awarded over £23,000 to the project led by Locala Health and Wellbeing and New Vision Bradford.

The weekly clinic means women with complex health and social needs can be supported by specialist clinicians in one setting at the same time. It will operate as a “drop in” to increase access and help promote healthier lifestyles.

The Fund is financed through recovered cash and assets seized from criminals by police and prosecutors, under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Speaking at the launch Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Every area of the county has groups of absolutely fantastic people who put their time and effort into making where they live better or helping people in need, and I am very thankful we are able to support them with these grants.

“This fund would just not be possible without the tireless work of the Economic Crime Unit, so a huge thank you to them for everything they do.”

The weekly clinics in Bradford will support women who are affected by poverty, poor sexual ill health, substance misuse, domestic abuse and those who have faced criminal problems due to lifestyle issues.

People will have access to healthcare advice and services, including drug/alcohol assessment, advice, guidance, and counselling, sexual health screening, treatment, contraception, and cytology.

The clinics have now begun thanks to the support from the Mayor’s Fund.
