To make a referral you need a modern web browser, which means you should use Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari. Whilst other browsers might work, we recommend using one of these.
Please also note that you will receive a referral ID once you complete your referral. You should keep this referral ID on any notes or files you have, as it will be used as a reference in future.
First things first you need to find the type of referral you want to make. You can do this on the main Locala site or by going to https://referrals.locala.org,uk. Once you’ve found the type of referral you want to make you will see information about this referral and a button telling you what to do next.
Depending on the type of referral you might be able to:
Sometimes only a clinician or service provider can make a specific type of referral. If you are not a clinician or service provider please get in touch with one directly.
If you need to you can find out how to sign up to start your referral here. Otherwise just click on the “make referral” button to start making your referral.
Once you have started your referral you should enter all of the details on the form where relevant. If you see a * next to a question then you need to provide the answer to this question before you can save your progress.
There are multiple steps on each referral form and you can use the “continue” and “back” buttons to go forward and back through these steps. If you click “continue” and you have not filled in the form properly then you will see messages in red next to the field which needs attention. You can see an example of this below.
Fill in each page and click “continue” to proceed. Once you have completed the form you will be taken to a page where you can review all of this information and make amends, if required.
Note that many forms require at least three valid forms of PID. If you do not provide at least three of these you will not be able to complete your referral.
If at any point you want to save these details and come back later you can click on the “save for later” button. If you are not logged in this will cause a popup to appear giving you the option to sign up or log in to save this information.
If you are logged in already then you won’t see this message and your referral will be saved so you can complete it later. You see a list of all of your sent and saved referrals by going to https://referrals.locala.org.uk/referral.
If you want to cancel a referral and remove all of the information you have provided you can do this in two ways.
If you are in the middle of making a referral you will see a link in the top-right of the screen which reads “cancel this referral”. Clicking on this will result in a popup appearing asking if you are sure. Click on the “yes, cancel my referral” button to remove the referral. Note that once you’ve done this the referral will be deleted and you will need to start again.
If you are logged in you can go to “my referrals” in the menu and click on the “cancel” button next to the relevant referral. This will also show you a popup asking if you are sure you want to cancel this referral. Click on the “yes, cancel my referral” button to remove the referral.
Once you have completed the referral form you will be presented with a page asking you to review the details you entered. These are separated into the various steps and sections of the form.
To change any information you entered click “amend details” next to the appropriate section heading. You can then make any changes and click “save” to go back to the summary of your referral.
To submit your referral first check the box to indicate you are happy for Locala to contact you about this referral and then click “confirm and send”. You will
then be taken to a page which confirms the referral has been sent and will provide you with a referral ID for this referral.
Make a note of the referral ID as this will be your reference for any future communication.
