Day Surgery

Service update

In line with national guidance we have made some changes to our service as part of Locala's COVID-19 response. We are currently running a restricted service in Podiatric Surgery and MSK foot and ankle. All Minor Surgery appointments are still cancelled. The information below relates to the usual services we provide

The Locala Day Surgery Unit is located in the heart of the community at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital in Holmfirth. The unit provides specialist care and treatment for patients in a relaxed and friendly community setting.

Meet the Team

The team at Holme Valley Day Surgery Unit has extensive clinical and administrative expertise and experience. This all comes together to provide a person centred, quality patient experience and the feedback received from our patients demonstrates how well they achieve that.

A podiatric surgeon is a non-medical professional who specialises in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of the foot and its related structures. Podiatric Surgeons are Fellows of the Surgical Faculty of the College of Podiatrists. The qualification is registered under the Health and Care Professions Council.


Stephen Finney

Podiatric Surgeon

Mr Stephen Finney qualified with a diploma in podiatric medicine in 1989 and after extensive post graduate training was awarded his Podiatric Surgical Fellowship in 1995. He took up his first consultant post in Nottingham 1998.

He has extensive clinical experience having carried out over 7,000 foot operations and is also very active in a number of regional and national educational and professional roles: University Lecturer (Huddersfield)

Journal reviewer, National Surgical Examiner and Board Member of the College of Podiatrists, Advisor to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Stephen is also Consultant Podiatric Surgeon to Derbyshire Community Health Care Services

Mark Thurman

Mark is a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon (FRCPodS) currently working for Locala Community Partnerships in West Yorkshire, and as a Specialist Registrar for Derbyshire Community Health Services, Having gained BSc (Hons First Class) from the University Of Huddersfield School Of Podiatry in 2004, Mark, returned to his native Wales where he began his Podiatry career with South Gloucestershire PCT. Mark has also enjoyed appointments at Sheffield Teachings Hospitals and was awarded CCPST in 2018.  

Matthew Jaggar

Matthew gained his Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 2016 and is currently employed as a Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery. He is working towards his Completion Certificate in Podiatric Surgical Training (CCPST) and performs a wide range of surgical procedures, as well as outpatient appointments including guided cortisone injections.

Matthew is a non-medical and supplementary prescriber and has worked on the development and revalidation of departmental Patient Group Directions.

Matthew has presented at regional and national conferences and has published articles in professional journals.
