Letter of competence Intrauterine techniques

Who's it for?

Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and Physician Associates


Requirements prior to practical training

  • Registered with UK professional regulatory body (GMC, NMC or PAMVR) (Evidence Required)
  • Pass OTA ( Online Theory Assessment) or hold a current FSRH Diploma, MFSRH or FFSRH (Evidence Required)
  • Complete e-SRH module 15 (Evidence Required)
  • Competent in clinical consultation.
  • Up-to-date with resuscitation and anaphylaxis (Evidence Required)
  • Competent to give an intramuscular injection.
  • Read the current FSRH guidance on intrauterine contraception.
  • Be up to date with Levels 1-3 safeguarding children and young people and ensure that level 3 is maintained throughout training. (Evidence Required)
  • Be competent in undertaking a speculum examination.
  • Read the 6 principles of care as outlined in the “Guidance for those undertaking or recertifying FSRH qualifications whose personal beliefs conflict with the provision of abortion or any method of contraception” and agree to abide by them in practice.
