Diploma (DFSRH)

Who is the diploma suitable for?

Doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physician associates or other healthcare professionals registered in the UK and Ireland, working in primary care, community and integrated services.


What is involved in the training?

The Diploma is made up of four different assessment frameworks.

  1. Independent Learning Portfolio (ILP) - a mixture of self-guided learning, topic investigations, case discussion and patient feedback.
  2. Online Theory Assessment (OTA) This online multiple-choice assessment will be made up of 50 questions and will take one hour to complete.
  3. Summative Clinical Assessments (SCA) x 5 within a clinical setting.
  4. Assessment Half Day (AHD) The Assessment Half Day is a clear, standardised assessment done face-to-face. It consists of a written assessment lasting one hour as well as four stations which you will complete in rotation.

What are the pre-course requirements?

To successfully apply for the DFSRH, you will need to be able to fulfil all of the following entry requirements.

1.   Registered with a UK or Irish medical professional regulatory body and have a license to practice if that is required by your regulator

2. Able to give an intramuscular injection (self-certify)

3. Able to give a subcutaneous injection (self-certify)

4. Able to perform a speculum examination (self-certify for doctors, physician associates, midwives and nurses who are smear takers or hold LOCIUT. Outside of these groups skill will need to be verified) 

5. Resuscitation and anaphylaxis training in line with current UK Guidelines (evidence required)

6. Accept the Learner Charter

Candidates are required to read, accept, and abide by the regulations of the DFSRH 2020 Learner Charter. Please read the DFSRH 2020 Learner Charter for more information.

Important information

You will have a total of two years to complete the DFSRH from formally being accepted on to the programme.

Locala will commit to supporting the ILP and SCAs but we are under no obligation to offer the AHD and as such this may need to be completed elsewhere. Please note that the cost of the AHD will vary between providers.

You will be required to arrange an honorary contract. Details of this will be provided on application.
