For many children, the most appropriate way to target their speech, language and communication needs is through implementation of appropriate targets and strategies in a classroom environment. This approach helps them to generalise their skills in broader contexts and supports a communication friendly environment.

If a therapist decides that a child's speech & language needs are best met through the implementation of advice & a specific programme of work in school, then they will be transferred to our mainstream school service. this can happen at any stage in a child's SLT care.

When should the Request for Further Input Form be returned to SLT?

When should the Request for Further Input Form be returned to SLT?

Schools usually send the form back when the child has nearly completed their programme or different advice or strategies are required.

When a programme is provided, a date will be given by which school is required to contact the department. If we do not receive a request for further input by this date, we will assume that the child's speech & language needs have been met and SLT is no longer required. The child will be discharged.
