Have you heard DESMOND mentioned, wonder who he is???

DESMOND stands for Diabetes Education and Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed.

DESMOND is:

• An informal way to find out more about Type 2 diabetes.
• A resource to help you manage the changes Diabetes will bring to your life.
• An opportunity to share experiences.
• A family of education modules designed specifically for you.

DESMOND Programmes are unique and the style of our education is designed to support you to become the expert. Educators are at hand to help increase your knowledge and understanding of what have Diabetes will mean for you. This course is also designed to help people reduce their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. 

Each course has a group of up to 10 people who are either Type 2 Diabetic or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. You are welcome to bring a family member/ friend/ partner to the course with you.

DESMOND courses are built around group activities but there are still opportunities for you to speak to an educator individually if you wish.

What will you get out of a DESMOND course?

Quite a lot!

By attending a DESMOND course you will:

• Get up to date information about Diabetes and risk.
• Learn Practical skills which you may find helpful in managing Diabetes and risk.
• Discuss and explore factors relating to Diabetes such as food choices, Activity and medication.
• Information will be available for you to take away.
• Get evidence based facts.
