Saturday support to stop smoking
Saturday support to stop smoking
Local people who want to stop smoking can now drop-in for free, confidential support at new Saturday sessions in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.
The new clinics have been introduced following requests from smokers who have struggled to get to day and evening sessions in the week. The Saturday options are a pilot but will remain if they are popular.
The drop-ins are at:
Huddersfield Sports Centre, Southgate, HD1 1TW 11.00am
Dewsbury Health Centre, Wellington Road, WF13 1HN 3.00pm
Christine Farmery, a Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor with the Locala Stop Smoking Service, said: "We offer drop-ins and one to one appointments across Kirklees at various times but people who work and/or have family commitments have said a Saturday session would be easier for them to attend. So hopefully these two new sessions will be successful.
"One of the most effective ways to stop smoking is to attend drop-ins and share your experience with other people who are trying to stop. But some people prefer individual appointments with a specialist stop smoking advisor so we offer both."
Evidence shows that smokers are four times more likely to quit with specialist support and therapy. Support at all Locala sessions is tailored to the individual. The expert advisors provide information about what to expect on the journey to being smoke-free and offer tips on staying stopped. Nicotine Replacement Therapy vouchers or Zyban /Champix on prescription are available at the first session. The Locala Stop Smoking Service also provides specialist support for pregnant smokers and their families.
