Local projects to benefit from new Locala Community Fund

Locala Community Partnerships CIC has launched a Community Fund to support projects in Kirklees with a health, wellbeing, community or environmental focus. A maximum of £10,000 a year will be donated to successful applicants in grants of £100 - £1000.

The Community Fund allows Locala, a social enterprise providing NHS community health care in and around Kirklees, to support local initiatives, projects, groups and societies. This could be much needed equipment, training or maintenance work.

Robert Flack, Chief Executive, said: "Setting up the Community Fund supports Locala's ethos as a social enterprise. We are here to support the community and our new Fund allows us to be directly involved with projects supporting the health and wellbeing of the people we serve."

He added: "What makes the Locala Community Fund different is that our Members will have a say in what projects we support. All applications that meet the criteria will be open to a vote. Membership is made up of our staff and the general public - people that live or care for someone within the Kirklees area."

Tom Taylor, Chair of Third Sector Leaders Kirklees said: "This is fantastic news for the area. Many people work very hard to keep a wide range of community groups and projects up and running. I'm certain support from the Locala Community Fund will be very welcome."

Anyone who is over the age of 14 who lives or cares for someone in Kirklees can become a Member of Locala, details can be found on the Locala website, www.locala.org.uk.
